Event: Cultural event to commemorate 75th Indian Independence Day

Title: Liberated Mind and Heart

Date: 14th August 2021

Rhythm & Rhyme, the cultural activity club of School of Languages, KIIT Deemed to be University organized an online event, “LIBERATED MIND & HEART” signifyingIndia’s spirit of diversity, on the eve of the 75th Indian Independence Day. This virtual cultural event, celebrated on 14th August 2021, was organized by the members of the club with a lot of vigor and enthusiasm, guided by the faculty coordinator of the club, Prof. Debanjali Roy.

This cultural event celebrated the 75th Independence Day of our nation and upheld the creative spirit of the students of the School of Languages. Mr. DuryodhanSahoo,ex Indian Airforce Combatant Veteranwas the guest of Honor for the evening, and he shared his experiences in the Kargil War and life in the Force. The event was a medley of music and dance presentations coupled with video recordings and poetry recitation. An important aspect of the event was a discussion of the term “Independence” from global perspectives as international students of the School from Rwanda, Bangladesh and Bhutan narrated stories of their nation’s independence and shared snippets of their national cultures through video presentation curated by the technical head of the team, Mr. Sabyasachi Mishra, student of B.A. English 2nd Year. The event was beautifully curated by the Student Coordinators of the Club, Ms. Ranjita Majumder and Ms. Vaishali Gupta, students of M.A. English 2nd Year and Ms. Milan Kumari Panda, student of B.A. English 2nd Year.

The event was graced by Hon’ble Dean of School of Languages, Dr. Biswajit Das, Academic Coordinator of School of Languages, Dr. Sahel Md. Delabul Hossain and attended by students, teaching and non-teaching staff of KIIT School of Languages. The event garnered a significantly appreciative and positive response from the audience.

Event: Cultural Event (Virtual) to Spread Message of Positivity and Happiness

Title:  La Vie En Rose

Date: 19th June 2021

Rhythm & Rhyme, cultural club of School of Languages, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a virtual event, “LA VIE EN ROSE”, which is the French translation of “Life Seen Through Happy Lenses” on 19th June 2021.

The team had put together multiple acts of music and dance added with a thrill of poetry performance. The special highlight of the event was the celebration of the victory of the students, who had suffered from the novel Corona Virus. All the performances exhibited a positive influence, which was essential in these difficult times. The main aim of the event was to spread Positivity and Happiness in these dark times.

The event was attended by students, scholars and academicians across the country and was appreciated by all participants. The event was curated and coordinated by Prof. Debanjali Roy, Faculty Coordinator of the club & Assistant Professor of the School of Languages with the active support of the students of Bachelor’s and Master’s in English, KIIT School of Languages.

Event: Cultural event (virtual) to celebrate Festival of colors ‘Holi’
Title: Jashn-e-Bahara

Date: 25th March 2021

 Rhythm & Rhyme, the cultural club of the School of Languages, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a virtual event to celebrate the festival of colours, Holi virtually titled, “Jashn-e-Bahara” on March 25, 2021. This event was organized by the members of the club with a lot of vigor and enthusiasm. Guided by the faculty coordinator of the club, Prof. Debanjali Roy, this cultural event celebrated the cultural and linguistic diversity of the festival of colors Holi and upheld the creative spirit of the students of the School of Languages. The event was attended by all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of KIIT University, and students, faculties, and members of other universities.

The event covered every activity starting from music to dance to acting. There were many dance performances performed by the students of the club inclusive of all genres from classical to modern. Music followed a similar suit where the students showcased their talents beautifully. The celebration of Holi also included poem recitations by the students where the beauty of the Festival of Colours and Women was highlighted. Various skit performances were conducted to bring focus onto very important topics such as the outbreak of coronavirus and the celebration of Holi with consent. The event came to a beautiful end and the audience response was very positive throughout the event.

Event : Online Lecture
Title:  Angasudhi: The Kinetics of Non-Verbal Communication
Speaker: Ms. Arupa Lahiry, noted Bharatnatyam dancer

Date: 6th February, 2021

Rhythm & Rhyme, the cultural club of the School of Languages, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a lecture titled, “Angasudhi: The Kinetics of Non-Verbal Communication” by Ms. Arupa Lahiry on 6th February 2021. This event was organized by the members of the cultural club of the School of Languages, KIIT, with a lot of vigor and enthusiasm, guided by the faculty coordinator of the club, Prof. Debanjali Roy.

Ms. Arupa Lahiry was the guest speaker for the event. She is a senior disciple of Smt. Chitra Vishweswaran of Chennai and is impaneled with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Doordarshan, Delhi, and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Ms. Arupa Lahiry’s lecture started with a brief discussion on non-verbal communication and how dance movements and gestures (mudras) play a major role in expressing the unsaid. She explained the titular term Angasudhi, which plays a major role in Bharatanatyam dance, through the course of her lecture. Besides being an academic discourse, this lecture was unique in the way it coupled performance and practice of classical dance forms. Discussing kinesics in communication through Alarippu in Bharatanatyam, Ms. Lahiry performed three Rasas out of nine in dance for her mesmerized audience. Finally, the session ended with an interactive session which recorded a tremendously positive response from the participants as they engaged in deliberations and discussions with Ms. Lahiry.

Event: Virtual Cultural Program to commemorate 72nd Republic Day
Title: Ek Shaam Desh Ke Naam

Date: 25th January 2021

Rhythm & Rhyme, the cultural club of KIIT School of Languages organized a virtual event, “Ek Shaam Desh Ke Naam” on January 25, 2021, commemorating the 72nd Republic Day of India. Guided by the faculty coordinator of the club, Prof. Debanjali Roy, this cultural event celebrated the cultural and linguistic diversity of the nation and upheld the creative spirit of the students of the School of Languages. The event was attended by all the students, teaching, and non-teaching staff of KSOL.

The event covered every activity starting from music to dance to poetry. There were many singing performances performed by the students of the Rhythm & Rhyme club from the School of Languages, KIIT in all genres starting from classical to western. A dance followed a similar suit where the students showcased their talents beautifully. The Republic Day celebration also included poem recitations by the students and the Deputy Director, Mr. Sameer Kumar Das where Mr. Das recited poem passages by Muhammad Iqbal and cited verses from the Gita. The cultural event was brought to an end by a closing presentation harping on the sacred values enshrined in the constitution of India. The event came to a beautiful end and the audience response was very positive throughout the event.
