KIZUNA Japanese Society of the Department of Language & Literature, School of Liberal Studies, KIIT-DU organized a vibrant and fun-filled cultural event “Konnichiwa Japan” on 16th September 2025 to promote Japanese language & traditions among students and faculty members of the University.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of faculty members and students. Prof. (Dr.) K.D. Raju, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIT graced the occasion as Chief Guest whose support underscored the university’s commitment to promote cultural exchange and student engagement. Around 30 tribal students of KISS University who studied Japanese language also joyfully participated in the event, a first time experience for them of jointly celebrating a cultural moment with their counterparts in KIIT University.
The event commenced with showcasing to the Pro Vice Chancellor the elaborate photo-exhibition titled “Japan @ KIIT & KISS: Memorable Moments” highlighting the major activities undertaken to promote Japanese language learning in the last 2 years including visits of dignitaries from Japan.
A series of interactive booths offered participants a unique window into Japanese traditions. Students practiced the art of calligraphy (at Suuji booth), learned the etiquette of chopstick use (at Hashi booth), and explored basic Japanese self-introduction (at JikoShoukai booth), making the experience both engaging and educational.
Adding to the excitement, a Japan Quiz was conducted, covering diverse themes such as Japanese culture, general knowledge, and popular anime. The quiz energized the audience and ignited greater curiosity about Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
The event concluded with a group performance of Bon Odori, a traditional Japanese folk dance performed during the summer festival Obon, which is held to honor the spirits of ancestors. Faculty, students, and guests joined hands in the circle dance, creating an atmosphere of unity, joy, and intercultural appreciation.
The program was meticulously organized under the leadership of Mr Sameer Kumar Das, Associate Dean, Department of Language and Literature, with seamless coordination by the Japanese language faculty members Mr. Satkar Tripathi, Ms. Mami Kimura and Dr Sukanto Mazumder. The unwavering support of Japanese faculty members and Japanese language students ensured the event’s resounding success.
Towards the conclusion, members of Kizuna Japanese society who had previously studied Japanese language under the Department of Language and Literature shared their journey of learning the language and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the department for its dedicated efforts in fostering Japanese language and cultural education at KIIT.
Through “Konnichiwa Japan,” the KIIT community celebrated the essence of cultural diversity, discovered new global perspectives, and strengthened the bonds of friendship between India and Japan. The event stood as a testament to KIIT’s vision of nurturing intercultural understanding and global citizenship among its students.
