Course Title: Communicative English
Course Duration:  30 sessions (1 hour X 30)
Class Timing: 6 pm Onwards
Weekly Schedule: 4 sessions of 1 hour each on every working week; Online Classes
Course Fees: Rs 5000/-

 

Mode of Evaluation

  • Assignent/ surprise quiz/Participation in class activities  :  50%
  • Mid- Course assessment  :  25%
  • End-Course assessment  :   25%
  • Total    :   100

Assessment Strategies :

Students’ progress will be periodically assessed through quizzes, assignments and presentations, in addition to the Mid-Course and End-Course assessment

Module Rationale:

  • This course is designed for students for different levels at the university & outside who require proficiency speaking skills in English as a second language.
  • The course intends to equip students in English with emphasis on functional language used in typical settings, including active listening, asking questions, taking notes and contributing ideas and opinions
  • Special attention is given to English pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, and conversational situations, public speaking, communication skills used in academic and professional settings.
  • As part of the course, the students participate in such activities as guided discussions, debates, Group discussions, mock interviews, oral reports, and presentations. Students are also taught strategies for overcoming pronunciation and accent barriers.
  • The course will have different levels as per the requirement of the students.

Aims and Distinctive Features.

The strategic teaching objectives are:

  • To improve their English-speaking skills needed for academic and professional success.
  • To include simulation and discussion, with feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and usage. The thrust of the programme is on overall refinement of the students English Language Skills.
  • To give students practice in learning strategies that will enable them to become an independent, confident, and successful user of the language
  • To help the students understand the vocabulary, structure, pronunciation of the English language as it is used in global settings
  • To enable students to understand the use of advanced communication skills such as using English in Conversation among peer groups, teachers, staff, friends and other students.
  • Using English in interpersonal and cross-cultural environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

At the end of the course students will:

  • Attain and enhance competence in the listening, speaking, presenting , conversing and communicating in ENGLISH
  • Improve their speaking ability in English both in terms of fluency and comprehensibility
  • Improve their English listening comprehension skills through extensive listening exercises
  • Overcome stage fear and make confident conversations in everyday situations.
  • Improve their English Pronunciation Skills
  • Participate confidently in GDs and Personal Interviews
  • Enlarge their vocabulary by practicing situation related words, phrases and idioms
  • Will review the grammatical forms of English and the use of these forms in specific communicative contexts, which include: class activities, homework assignments, reading of texts and writing
  • Paraphrase and Present information from outside sources effectively and accurately

The topics are selected and graded regarding age, needs, level, and students’ interest.
